Was approached by one of the Exchange Admins where I worked to help him test a 3rd party app to assist with Exchange mail­box restores that they were about to purchase… 

These 3rd party enter­prise apps are never cheap and I can’t help believ­ing that much of that busi­ness is based on:

1. Lack of in depth prod­uct knowl­edge of the appli­ca­tion the 3rd party app addresses, and it’s native capa­bil­i­ties (in this case both Exchange and NetBackup)
2. Lack of com­mu­ni­ca­tion between teams (the exchange team never spec­i­fied indi­vid­ual mail­box restore as a require­ment, and the backup team never informed the exchange team that it was a ser­vice they were capa­ble of offering)

Too often we address imme­di­ate requests with­out under­stand­ing the rea­sons / moti­va­tions behind them.
